The question is always asked, who would you want on the mound in a must win game?
Well the Dodgers and their fans get their man in, Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw will take the mound on Tuesday with the Dodgers season hanging in the balance and they wouldn’t want it any other way. The best pitcher in baseball to save your season and to prove to the world that you can win when it matters most: It could not be set up any better for Kershaw.
All eyes will be on Kershaw, waiting to see if he can get the job done or self-destructive in the 7th inning once again. Kershaw needs a signature moment in the postseason. Right now Kershaw is remembered for the home run that Matt Adams hit against him that would eventually send the Dodgers packing.
Kershaw isn’t the only one that needs this win for his legacy, the Dodgers need to support Kershaw with runs and win a game that Kershaw pitches. Kershaw is 1 – 6 in the postseason. Yes, wins and losses is an outdated way to judge how good a pitcher does but who cares,Kershaw needs to win game 4.
This is his time to shine and get the monkey off his back that he can come through when his team needs him. One man can change a series. Kershaw is that man. With one great performance he swings the momentum of the series in the Dodgers direction and brings the series back to Chavez Ravine.
The Dodgers still have hope and can feel a bit confident knowing that they have Kershaw going in game 4 and potentially Greinke in game 5.
But before they can hand the ball to Greinke, who should be the CY Young, Kershaw must take care of business. He is the ace, the workhorse, the best pitcher in baseball and he needs to pitch like it on Tuesday. Champions want the ball when the game is on the line.
The weight of a city, a franchise and a legacy will be on Kershaw in game 4.
And I can’t wait for him to dominant with everyone watching.
