The Dodgers don’t just survive their weekend series with the Giants, they increased their NL West division lead to 3 games with 13 games left. The series was off to a bad as the Dodgers were rocked on Friday being trounced 9-0. To make matters worse Ryu suffered another setback by injuring his shoulder. He will miss his next start. He will undergo an MRI to see the extent of the injury. Ryu has been the Dodgers third best pitcher this entire season. Hopefully the injury isn’t too bad and he’ll only need rest to make a deep run in the playoffs.
As bad as Friday was, Saturday was quite the opposite. The Dodgers bats were awaken to say the least. The Dodgers returned the favor and whopped the Giants 17-0. As a team, the Dodgers, had 24 hits for the game. Everyone is the starting lineup had at least one hit. The highlight of the night was Zach Greinke. However it wants because of his pitching (which he pitched a good game and shutdown the Giants bats), Greinke put on a hitting display. On his first plate appearance he settled for a double by missing a home run by a foot or so. Greinke’s second plate appearance he left no doubt and hit a two-run homer over the left field wall. It was a “no doubt about it” home runs. Greinke night was done rather short since the Dodgers put this game away rather quickly.
On Sunday, “The Big Train” Clayton Kersahw was his dominating self and captured his 19th win of the season. His ERA for the first time in 5 starts didn’t drop, it actually raised from 1.67 to 1.70 which is just ridiculous. Kershaw keeps making a case why he should be the NL MVP, he already has the CY Young on lock down. Kershaw is also looking to become the first pitcher to win the ERA title fours running. Kershaw has been dominate the entire season. He extended his streak of allowing 3 runs or less to 21 consecutive games. Every time Kershaw takes the mound the Dodgers feel like they are going to win. Behind another gem from Kershaw, the Dodgers increased their lead to 3 games in the division and lowered their magic number to clinch a playoff berth to 11 games.
After losing 9-0 on Friday, the Dodgers out scored the Giants 21-2 to finish the series. The Giants and Dodgers will see each other one more next week in Dodger Stadium, which by then the Dodgers might have the division lockdown. But for now the Dodgers proved this weekend why they are The Best In The West.
